Black Bess pays tribute to legendary folklore with a sensory profile defined by depth and balance. This Irish Stout presents a striking jet-black pour, crowned by a dense, creamy tan head. The aroma is dominated by moderate coffee-like notes and hints of cocoa. On the palate, robust roasted flavors take center stage, specifically highlighting bitter chocolate and toasted grain. Despite its assertive roast character, the beer remains remarkably smooth, supported by a medium-full body and a velvety texture. It finishes with a clean, lingering bitterness and a dry, coffee-inflected aftertaste that invites another sip.
Appearance. Jet black (35-40 SRM) with deep garnet highlights; opaque clarity; features a thick, creamy, long-lasting tan head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity featuring a dominant espresso and dark chocolate malt character; secondary notes of roasted grain; very low earthy hop aroma and clean fermentation profile with minimal esters.
Taste. Initial impression of bittersweet cocoa and roasted malt; develops into a robust coffee-like flavor with medium-high bitterness; balanced by a faint hint of caramel sweetness in the mid-palate; finishes dry with a lingering roasted grain character.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notably smooth and creamy texture; moderate carbonation; very low alcohol warmth; displays a slight, pleasant roasted grain dryness without harsh astringency.
