Identity Crisis is a unique American IPA that blurs stylistic lines by utilizing a cold lager yeast fermentation for an exceptionally crisp and clean profile. The sensory experience is defined by a vibrant tropical stone fruit attack driven by fresh New Zealand hops. Bright notes of passionfruit and nectarine lead the charge, supported by a restrained, grainy-sweet malt backbone. The low-temperature fermentation eliminates traditional ale esters, allowing the hop-derived peach and apricot characters to shine with surgical precision. The finish is remarkably dry and refreshing, featuring a firm, snappy bitterness that balances its lager-like drinkability with intense IPA-level aromatics.
Appearance. Pours a brilliant medium gold with excellent clarity. Features a persistent, medium-sized white head with good retention and fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by New Zealand hop characteristics of nectarine, peach, and tropical passionfruit. Low, clean, grainy-sweet malt provides a neutral base. The fermentation profile is exceptionally clean, lacking the fruity esters typically found in top-fermented ales.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical and stone fruit hop flavors. A low, neutral, grainy maltiness supports a medium-high hop bitterness. The fermentation character is very clean and crisp, leading into a dry, refreshing finish. The aftertaste is hoppy and bitter with lingering notes of fruit skin and citrus.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is medium-high, contributing to a refreshing and lively mouthfeel. No alcohol warmth is detected, and there is no harshness.
