Brew Wicked is a vibrant collaboration between Brew Toon and Vault City, delivering an extravagant sensory experience that leans into nostalgic, electric blue aesthetics. This Straight Sour Beer presents a bold, clean lactic sourness that defines the palate. The addition of succulent blueberries and tart raspberries provides a deep, fruity complexity that meshes with the moderate esters of the fermentation. A base of pale malts offers a subtle, biscuity support, ensuring the sharp, lemony acidity remains refreshing and bright. At 6% ABV, it carries a light, integrated warmth, finishing crisp and dry with a lingering berry-infused tartness and high effervescence.
Appearance. Striking electric blue in color, departing from the typical pale straw of the base style due to heavy fruit additions. Clarity is somewhat hazy. It features a large, dense, light-blue stained head with poor retention and high effervescence.
Aroma. High intensity. A sharply sour, lactic character dominates the nose, reminiscent of lemon and tart green apple. Prominent aromas of fresh blueberry and jammy raspberry provide a vibrant fruity overlay. The malt presence is subtle, offering a crackery, bready background. No hop aroma or funk is present; the fermentation is exceptionally clean.
Taste. An assertive, clean lactic sourness immediately commands the palate, supported by a light, bready malt foundation. Intense flavors of tart raspberries and sweet blueberries provide a vibrant fruitiness. Bitterness is undetectable. The profile is sharply acidic but never vinegary, finishing very dry and crisp with a lingering berry tartness and citrusy-lemony notes.
Mouthfeel. Light-bodied with a high level of carbonation that enhances the refreshing, effervescent quality. A light, pleasant alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. Crisp acidity provides a sharp, refreshing bite on the tongue with no notable astringency.
