This elegant Mocha Porter presents a harmonious marriage of dark roasted grains and artisan additions. Brew By Numbers utilizes a pressurized cold-steep coffee infusion to deliver vibrant, fresh coffee notes that avoid the acridity of traditional roasts. Deep cocoa layers from the cacao nibs provide a decadent, velvety richness that weaves through a backbone of chocolate and caramel malts. The base Porter provides a sturdy structure of toasted bread and subtle dark fruit, while the coffee and cacao remain the aromatic leads. Smooth and refined, this Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer balances its decadent qualities with a clean, roasted finish.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to near-black (35–40 SRM). Brilliant clarity at the edges when held to light. Supports a thick, creamy tan head with excellent persistence and fine-beaded lacing.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant aromas of freshly ground coffee and rich dark chocolate lead the profile. Supporting malt notes of toasted bread, nutty caramel, and a hint of dark plum esters are present. Hop aroma is very low, allowing the coffee and cacao additions to remain the focus.
Taste. Initial impression is a luxurious blend of bittersweet chocolate and espresso. The mid-palate reveals layers of roasted barley and toffee with a very mild earthy hop character. Bitterness is moderate, derived primarily from the roasted malts and coffee rather than hops. The finish is smooth and lingering with a clean coffee aftertaste and balanced, off-dry sweetness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, silky texture likely enhanced by the cacao. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but remains soft. No perceptible astringency from the cold-steep coffee or roasted grains.
