Dark Soldier Part One is a decadent Imperial Stout designed to evoke a rich chocolate birthday cake. A complex grist of 8 malts provides a robust foundation of espresso and charred crust, which is layered with an indulgent confectionery profile. The addition of toasted cocoa nibs and chocolate essence delivers an intense, dark chocolate richness, while vanilla pods and vanilla extract impart a creamy, marshmallow-like sweetness. At 10.5% ABV, this beer offers a velvety, warming presence that integrates seamlessly with its dessert-forward character. The result is a harmonious, full-bodied experience that balances deep roasted grain with luxurious, sweet accents.

Appearance. Jet black (40 SRM) and completely opaque. Pours with a thick, creamy, deep tan head that shows moderate retention and leaves significant oily legs on the glass, indicating high viscosity.

Aroma. High intensity; dominant notes of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and sweet vanilla bean. Beneath the dessert layers lies a complex roasted malt profile of espresso, black licorice, and toasted bread. Subtle background esters of dried figs and prunes are present, with a smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth.

Taste. Intensely flavorful and rich; begins with a sweet surge of liquid chocolate cake and creamy vanilla. The mid-palate reveals the complexity of the 8-malt blend, featuring roasted coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of molasses. Medium-high bitterness provides necessary balance against the residual sweetness. The finish is long and bittersweet with lingering cocoa and gentle alcohol warmth.

Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a thick, chewy, and luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the velvety mouthfeel. Noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth provides a comforting glow without being sharp.
