Brave Brewing Co’s flagship Extra Pale Ale is a vibrant celebration of the Simcoe hop, delivering a punchy sensory profile that bridges classic and modern American Pale Ale styles. Bright notes of sticky pine resin, zesty grapefruit, and lush passion fruit dominate the senses, reflecting the multifaceted nature of the Simcoe variety. This aromatic showcase is built upon a soft, pillowy malt foundation that provides enough structure to balance the hop-forward character without intruding. It finishes clean and crisp, leaving a lingering impression of tropical citrus and a refined, approachable bitterness that invites another sip.
Appearance. Pale golden to light amber (SRM 6-8). Features a moderately large, frothy white head with good retention and delicate lacing. Clarity is brilliant to clear.
Aroma. Moderately high hop intensity featuring prominent Simcoe characteristics: fragrant pine needles, grapefruit zest, and hints of tropical passion fruit. Underlying this is a low, neutral to slightly bready malt character. Fermentation is clean with very subtle, optional fruity esters.
Taste. The initial impression is hop-forward, led by resinous pine and bright citrus flavors. Bitterness is moderate (approx. 40 IBU) and well-integrated. A light, crackery malt presence provides a supportive backbone without being sweet. The finish is medium-dry and clean, with a lingering but smooth citrusy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a notably soft, smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a refreshing prickle. Alcohol warmth is very light and well-integrated.
