Horst reimagines the American Brown Ale by bridging Old World elegance and West Coast intensity. A complex foundation of sweet chocolate and toasted bread-like malts provides a rich canvas for an aggressive hop profile. The inclusion of German noble hops introduces subtle earthy and floral nuances, while a heavy dose of West Coast hops drives a vibrant sensory experience of resinous pine, sharp grapefruit, and bright lemon. Despite its deep, dark hue, this ale prioritizes drinkability with a surprisingly light body and a clean, dry finish. It is a harmonious collision of roasted depth and citrus-forward hop character.

Appearance. Very dark brown (30–35 SRM) with mahogany highlights; clear. Produces a moderate, light tan head with good retention and fine-textured lacing.

Aroma. High intensity. Rich aromatics of sweet chocolate and toasted bread are layered with an explosive hop bouquet of grapefruit, lemon zest, and resinous pine. Subtle earthy and floral notes from German noble hops add complexity against a clean fermentation profile with very low esters.

Taste. Initial malt-rich flavors of dark chocolate and toasted crusts are immediately balanced by medium-high hop bitterness. Flavors of citrus peel and pine needles are prominent, followed by a light earthy mid-palate. The malt and hops are well-balanced without being acrid or burnt. Finishes notably smooth and dry with a lingering citrus and cocoa aftertaste.
