This decadent Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer, brewed as an Imperial Stout, offers a masterclass in indulgence. A collaboration with Bådin, it features a massive malt backbone that supports a significant addition of Zotter organic cocoa nibs and Paul&Bohne freshly roasted coffee. The sensory profile is dominated by layers of intense espresso and velvety dark chocolate, woven into deep roasted grains. While powerful at 9.5% ABV, the integration of specialty ingredients provides a smooth, lingering finish. Expect a complex interplay of charred malt, bittersweet cocoa, and rich, earthy coffee that takes over the senses with every slow, deliberate sip.
Appearance. Opaque, deep ebony to jet black. Pours with a thick, creamy, tan to mocha-colored head with excellent retention and significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring prominent freshly roasted coffee and rich dark chocolate. Deep roasted malt notes of char and toast provide a sturdy foundation, complemented by subtle dark fruit esters like plum or raisin. Hop aroma is very low, allowing the Zotter cocoa and Paul&Bohne coffee to lead.
Taste. Initial impression is a wave of bittersweet chocolate and espresso. The mid-palate reveals a complex malt profile of cocoa, burnt sugar, and roasted grain. Bitterness is firm, derived from both roasted malts and hops, balancing the residual malt sweetness. The finish is long and velvety, showcasing lingering notes of cold-brew coffee and high-quality dark chocolate.
Mouthfeel. Full, viscous, and chewy body. Low to moderate carbonation enhances the silky, creamy texture. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth provides a pleasant glow, consistent with its 9.5% strength.
