This Sweet Stout presents a comforting sensory journey, evoking the essence of a decadent chocolate milk. Brewed with cocoa and vanilla, the profile is dominated by rich milk chocolate and silky creaminess. The addition of lactose provides a persistent sweetness that cushions the gentle roasted notes of the dark malts. Subtle floral and citrus nuances from Cascade hops peek through the malt-forward aroma, while the inclusion of oat flakes and wheat malt creates a luxurious, velvety texture. It finishes with a balanced, lingering sweetness, reminiscent of a cold-brewed espresso softened by a generous pour of cream.
Appearance. Very dark brown to opaque black in color (35 SRM). Displays a thick, creamy tan head with excellent retention and moderate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity of cocoa and sweet vanilla. Moderate aromas of milk chocolate and lightly roasted coffee. Low floral hop notes. Clean fermentation profile with very low fruity esters and a distinct, cream-like sweetness.
Taste. Initial impression is sweet and indulgent. Dominant milk chocolate and mild roasted grain flavors provide a cocoa-forward core. Low to moderate bitterness (approx. 25 IBU) provides a counterpoint to the high residual sweetness, which lasts into the finish. Low floral hop flavor. Finishes sweet, clean, and reminiscent of chocolate-covered espresso beans.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a notable silkiness and creaminess attributed to the oat flakes and lactose. Moderate carbonation. Very smooth with minimal alcohol warmth.
