Info:: Deep blonde in colour, Barbãr’s creamy head gives off a powerful aroma, unobtrusively scented with honey and accompanied by a bouquet of floral, spicy and citrus notes. The use of soft wheat gives a rounded attack, without heaviness. The sugar provided by the honey during the wort boiling undergoes fermentation and is converted into alcohol. Consequently, this is a soft but not sweet beer, with a touch of acidity which gives it freshness. The finish is full of finesse and without a bitter aftertaste. An original and distinctive beer whose distant origins go back to the “cervoise” brewed by our ancestors who called it “Warrior’s rest”.

De aanzet is breed, maar niet zwaar dankzij het gebruik van zachte tarwe. De honingsuiker die men tijdens het koken van de mout toevoegt, wordt gegist en dus omgezet in alcohol. Het resultaat is een zacht, maar niet gesuikerd bier met een lichtzure toets die zorgt voor een verfrissende smaak. De afdronk is subtiel en geraffineerd, maar niet bitter. Een origineel en karakteristiek bier dat kan bogen op een lange geschiedenis en door onze voorouders de “Rustplaats van de Strijder” werd genoemd.
De oprichting van de brouwerij:
De brouwerij werd opgericht op een strategische plek om de cafés aan de uitgangen van de porfiergroeven van het dorp te bevoorraden. Daar gingen de meer dan 3.000 arbeiders hun dorst lessen na de zware werkuren. Algauw breidde het verkoopnetwerk zich uit naar de naburige dorpen. Het waren andere tijden: er bestonden nog geen limonades, cola’s, energiedranken of flessenwater en door de sterkedrank was alcoholverslaving schering en inslag. Bier daarentegen was gezond, zat vol vitaminen B1 en B12 en was zelden sterker dan 3% vol. De gemiddelde Belg dronk toen 240 liter per jaar…
