Brasserie du Bas-Canada Altitudes

Pale Ale 5.7 º
This American Pale Ale, a collaboration with Lyric Brewing Company, highlights a vibrant New World hop profile through the use of Riwaka and Nelson Sauvin. The sensory experience is led by pungent aromas of crushed gooseberry, white grape, and passion fruit, typical of these sought-after varieties. A lean, neutral malt base supports the intense hop character without adding heavy sweetness. On the palate, refreshing citrus and tropical notes are balanced by a firm, clean bitterness that remains crisp. The finish is dry and bright, leaving a lingering impression of vibrant green fruit and subtle resinous pine, showcasing a modern approach to the style.
Appearance. Pale golden with brilliant clarity (SRM 5). It is topped by a moderately large, creamy white head that exhibits excellent retention and leaves intricate lacing as it recedes.
Aroma. Moderately-high hop intensity featuring prominent notes of white grape, crushed gooseberry, and tropical passion fruit. Underlying hints of pink grapefruit and a faint, pleasant diesel-like pungency are present from the New Zealand hops. The malt aroma is low and neutral, providing a clean, crackery background. Fermentation is clean with minimal esters.
Taste. The flavor leads with vibrant gooseberry and passion fruit, followed by zesty grapefruit. The malt character is restrained and bready, ensuring the hops remain the primary focus. Bitterness is moderate and firm but well-integrated, never reaching harshness. The finish is crisp and dry with a lingering aftertaste of citrus zest and white wine-like fruitiness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, refreshing texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively prickle on the tongue. There is no perceptible alcohol warmth or astringency, resulting in high drinkability.
