Lupulin Threshold Shift is an assertive Double IPA that pushes into Triple IPA territory with its potent 11.5% ABV. The sensory profile is dominated by intense hop saturation, delivering layers of resinous pine, zesty citrus, and overripe tropical fruit. Despite its strength, the beer maintains a lean, grainy malt backbone that prevents it from becoming cloying or overly heavy. A clean fermentation profile allows the massive hop character to shine, finishing with a sharp, lingering bitterness and a sophisticated, smooth alcohol warmth. It represents a bold exploration of hop limits, balancing significant potency with a surprisingly dry, drinkable finish.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange-copper (8-12 SRM) with a slight, acceptable haze from intensive dry-hopping. It supports a moderate-sized, creamy off-white head with excellent persistence and significant lacing.
Aroma. High to intense hop aroma featuring pungent notes of resinous pine, grapefruit peel, and bruised mango. A supportive, neutral grainy maltiness sits in the background, accompanied by a clean, light alcohol presence and subtle, neutral fermentation esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a massive wave of hop flavor—citrus oil and tropical fruit—followed by a firm, moderately high bitterness that is never harsh. Low, clean malt notes of cracker and light toast provide a minimal foundation. The finish is strikingly dry and clean, leaving a long-lasting hop resin and bitterness on the palate.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing enough lift to offset the density. A noticeable and warming alcohol presence is present, though it remains well-integrated and smooth.

Brass Castle is firmly established in Malton, North Yorkshire, with customers around the UK and overseas. We love what we do, and we’re very grateful to be cheered on our way by our local community. Like any small brewery, we’re bursting at the seams and could always do with more space. Brass Castle has recently begun developing kombucha recipes to join the beer line-up and we would very much like to enhance our Taphouse with food offerings and more space for community events.
