This Imperial Stout presents a profound sensory journey, merging charred intensity with the refined elegance of Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels. An initial wave of bittersweet chocolate and espresso bean crashes into deep notes of molasses and toasted oak. The barrel aging contributes distinct layers of vanilla bean and spicy bourbon warmth, softening the assertive roast. Dark fruit esters of prune and dried fig weave through the middle, supported by a heavy, velvet-like texture. As the liquid warms, the wood-derived tannins and spirits provide a lingering, sophisticated finish where cocoa and caramel meet a gentle, boozy heat.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40 SRM). Pours with a thick, deep tan head of moderate retention that leaves oily legs on the glass, indicative of high alcohol and viscosity.

Aroma. High intensity of dark chocolate, espresso, and burnt grain. The Buffalo Trace barrels provide dominant secondary notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and spicy bourbon. Moderate esters suggest prunes and raisins, with a very low earthy hop character.

Taste. Intense initial flavors of cocoa and roasted malt. The mid-palate is rich with caramel and vanilla from the barrel influence. Firm bitterness balances the residual sweetness. Complex layers of dark fruit and toasted wood lead to a long, warming, bittersweet finish with a lingering roast aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low-moderate. Significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present without being sharp or solventy.
