This assertive Double IPA delivers an intense sensory experience, defined by a massive hop profile characteristic of the West Coast style. Vibrant citrus and lime notes from Motueka interplay with the aggressive pine and resinous depth provided by Chinook. At 9.1% ABV, it presents a clean, firm bitterness that balances a lean, neutral malt backbone. The aroma is dominated by zesty citrus peel underpinned by a pungent, forest-like woodiness. It finishes remarkably dry and crisp, with a lingering resinous aftertaste and a smooth, integrated alcohol warmth that underscores its formidable strength.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale orange (7–9 SRM). Pours with a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head with fine lacing. Generally clear, though a light chill haze may be present due to the massive hop load.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant hop-derived notes of dank pine, resin, and grapefruit from Chinook, complemented by bright lime and tropical citrus from Motueka. Malt is low and neutral, providing a faint crackery background. Clean fermentation profile with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impact is a powerful wave of hop flavor mirroring the aroma: grapefruit, pine needles, and zesty lime. Moderately high to high bitterness that is firm but lacks harshness. Malt is supportive and clean with a light grainy character that quickly fades. Finishes very dry and crisp with a long-lingering resinous and citrus peel aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from hop oils. Medium-high carbonation provides a crisp bite. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting the strength without being solventy.
