More Paua is an assertive Triple IPA that shifts the traditional palate toward a vibrant, Southern Hemisphere-driven profile. Featuring a trio of Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, and Freestyle Manilita hops, the sensory experience is defined by bright gooseberry, white grape, and crushed passionfruit rather than heavy stone fruit. The Freestyle Manilita addition introduces complex layers of red berries, providing a unique depth against a clean, lean malt base. At 10% ABV, it presents a smooth, well-integrated warmth. The finish is remarkably dry for its strength, allowing the punchy tropical and vinous hop notes to linger without the weight of cloying residual sweetness.
Appearance. Pours a deep gold to light orange-copper (SRM 7-9) with a slight haze from intense hop saturation. Topped by a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by New Zealand character: distinct gooseberry, white wine grapes, and passionfruit. Secondary layers of red berries and subtle lime citrus are present. The malt is neutral and grainy in the background, supporting a clean fermentation profile with a soft, well-integrated alcohol presence.
Taste. A complex hop-forward flavor profile leads with Nelson Sauvin’s signature white grape and gooseberry, followed by Motueka’s tropical fruit and a unique red berry medley from Manilita hops. Bitterness is moderately high and firm but never harsh. The malt provides a soft, unobtrusive bready support.
