This California-style Double IPA presents a vibrant sensory profile driven by a heavy-handed blend of Kiwi and American hop varieties. On the nose, intense aromas of bright citrus and exotic orchid fruits dominate, supported by a clean, neutral malt backbone. The palate follows with a crisp, dry character, showcasing layers of resinous pine and tropical fruitiness. Despite its 8.7% ABV, the alcohol is expertly integrated, providing only a subtle warmth that enhances drinkability. A firm yet balanced bitterness ensures a clean, refreshing finish, epitomizing the modern West Coast approach to the Double IPA style while maintaining high drinkability.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale orange with brilliant clarity. Features a moderate-sized, persistent white head with excellent retention and fine-beaded lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward bouquet featuring distinct notes of grapefruit zest, lime, and floral orchid. Underlying hints of tropical stone fruit are supported by a faint, grainy, neutral malt sweetness and a very clean fermentation profile with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of powerful citrus and tropical fruit hop flavors. A moderately high bitterness is present but remains smooth and balanced rather than harsh. The malt profile is crisp and unobtrusive, allowing the New World hop character to shine. Finishes very dry and clean with a lingering resinous and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth texture. Moderate to high carbonation provides a crisp bite on the tongue. A gentle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present but remarkably restrained for the strength, with no astringency.
