This New England-style Double IPA presents a lush sensory profile, merging high-intensity hop saturation with a velvety, hazy structure. The strategic pairing of Motueka and Chinook hops creates a complex dynamic where bright, juicy citrus and mojito-like lime zest collide with deep layers of damp pine and sticky resin. A foundational, neutral malt base allows the hop-derived stone fruit and grapefruit notes to remain at the forefront. At 8.4% ABV, the beer carries a smooth, well-integrated warmth that enhances the mouthfeel without overshadowing the vibrant hop oils, finishing with a balanced, resinous linger typical of a modern Double IPA.
Appearance. Pale gold with a heavy, opaque haze. Features a dense, persistent, off-white foam head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma characterized by prominent lime zest and tropical fruit from the Motueka, layered over a classic American profile of pungent pine and grapefruit resin from the Chinook. Background malt is clean and neutral with a light doughy character; fermentation is clean with very low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of juicy citrus and crushed lime, followed immediately by a firm, resinous hop bitterness. The malt flavor is supportive and soft, providing a grainy-sweet base without caramel interference. High hop flavor persists through the mid-palate into a medium-dry finish, leaving a long, lingering aftertaste of pine needle and citrus peel.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, creamy, and slightly pulpy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but well-restrained alcohol warmth is present, with no harsh hop-derived astringency.
