This Imperial Stout is a monument to patience, having rested for 14 months in ex-Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels. The result is an opaque, obsidian pour that releases an intense aromatic bouquet of charred oak, rich vanilla, and spiritous bourbon. On the palate, decadent layers of dark chocolate and espresso meet dark fruit notes of fig and raisin. The extended aging tames the formidable 14.1% alcohol by volume into a velvet-smooth warmth that coats the tongue. Nuances of toasted coconut and sweet tobacco linger alongside a firm, roasty bitterness, creating a sophisticated and deeply complex sensory experience.

Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. A modest, deep tan head forms but fades quickly into a thin ring, leaving thick, oily legs on the glass that highlight its high viscosity.

Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and black licorice. The Heaven Hill barrel influence is prominent, contributing rich vanilla, toasted oak, and a distinct bourbon spirit character. Deep esters of dried plum and raisin meld with a subtle hint of molasses.

Taste. Bold initial flavors of dark cocoa and charred grain transition into a mid-palate of caramel and dark fruit. Moderate bitterness from roasted malts and hops provides a necessary counterpoint to the barrel-derived sweetness. The finish is long and warming, featuring lingering notes of oak, vanilla, and dark-roasted coffee.

Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the weight of the liquid. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout, reflecting the high gravity without being sharp or solventy.
