Taking Shape is a lush Hazy IPA that captures a vibrant spectrum of hop expression through a collaboration between Boundary and Beer Hut. This pour showcases the synergy of Strata, Mosaic, and Citra Spectrum. The sensory profile is defined by a deep saturation of tropical fruit, led by passionfruit and bright mango, layered over a foundation of zesty grapefruit and sweet tangerine. The use of Citra Spectrum enhances the oil-heavy punch of citrus peel without adding harshness. Its soft, pillowy texture supports the massive fruit load, leading to a smooth, juice-like finish that balances low bitterness with a clean, bready malt sweetness.
Appearance.3-7 SRM. Pours a glowing, opaque straw-gold with a dense, meringue-like white head that exhibits excellent retention and thick, decorative lacing.
Aroma.High intensity hop aroma featuring pronounced notes of passionfruit, ripe mango, and blueberries. A secondary layer of bright lemon zest and orange marmalade provides a sharp citrus lift. The malt is subtle but foundational, offering a lightly bready, doughy character. Fermentation is clean, with very light fruity esters that complement the hop profile.
Taste.High intensity tropical fruit flavors of pineapple and stone fruit. There is a concentrated citrus oil character—grapefruit and lime—that persists throughout. Malt flavors are soft and grainy, resembling fresh flour. Bitterness is moderate and well-integrated, providing enough structure to prevent a cloying finish. The aftertaste is clean and fruit-lingering, devoid of any hop burn or vegetal harshness.
Mouthfeel.Medium-full body with a soft, pillowy texture. Carbonation is moderate, contributing to a rounded mouthfeel. There is a very subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth with no astringency or hop-derived raspiness.
