Optimism Bias is a vibrant American IPA that captures the quintessential West Coast profile with a modern aromatic twist. The sensory experience is defined by a potent trifecta of Strata, Simcoe, and Mosaic Cryo hops, which weave together a complex tapestry of passionfruit, zesty grapefruit, and ripe forest berries. This fruit-forward character is balanced by a distinct, resinous dank pine and a firm bitterness. A lean, pale malt base provides a clean, crackery foundation, ensuring the hops remain the focus. It concludes with a crisp, dry finish and a lingering citrus peel brightness, embodying a bright and technically precise hop-forward ale.
Appearance. Medium gold (approx. 7 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a thick, persistent white head that exhibits excellent retention and leaves intricate lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop-forward aroma featuring prominent notes of tropical mango, berry, and grapefruit. A deep resinous, dank pine character is evident, supported by a low, clean, grainy malt background. Fermentation profile is neutral and clean.
Taste. Initial impression is sharply hoppy with flavors of citrus zest and tropical fruit. Moderate to high bitterness (approx. 50-60 IBU) provides a clean, assertive punch. Secondary notes of pine and earth from the Simcoe and Mosaic Cryo emerge mid-palate. The malt presence is low and toasted-grain in character, finishing very dry and crisp with a lingering resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, slightly resinous texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a refreshing prickle on the tongue. Alcohol warmth is light and well-integrated.
