This Imperial Stout offers a luxurious sensory experience, highlighted by the use of authentic Dutch-grown vanilla. A complex grist of five different malt varieties provides a deep foundation of bittersweet chocolate, toasted nuts, and roasted coffee. The vanilla integrates seamlessly, offering a creamy, aromatic sweetness that balances the robust roasted grains. Its high alcohol content provides a gentle, sophisticated warmth rather than sharp heat. The result is a harmonious, full-bodied profile where the intense dark grain character meets the elegant, floral, and woody depths of the specialty vanilla, creating a contemplative and lingering finish that celebrates its rich ingredient profile.
Appearance. Jet black (40+ SRM) and completely opaque. It pours with a thick, creamy, deep tan to dark brown head with moderate retention. Significant viscosity is visible as legs on the glass when swirled.
Aroma. High intensity. Pronounced scents of dark chocolate and espresso dominate, followed by a rich, aromatic floral vanilla. Subtle undertones of toasted walnuts and dark fruits like raisins are present. Hop aroma is very low, allowing the roasted malt and vanilla to lead.
Taste. The initial impression is intensely malty and sweet, featuring layers of cocoa, charred grain, and creamy vanilla. Moderate bitterness provides balance against the heavy malt backbone. The mid-palate reveals nutty notes and a hint of dark plum. The finish is long and bittersweet, with a pleasant, integrated alcohol presence and lingering vanilla bean.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and velvety, almost chewy in texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the creamy feel. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth spreads across the palate without being harsh or solventy.
