Boneface Hand of Doom
Hand of Doom is a formidable American Strong Ale that commands attention with its robust, muscular sensory profile. At 10% ABV, it presents a deep, complex foundation of rich caramel and dark dried fruit, derived from a generous malt bill. These bready and toasty layers are aggressively balanced by intense piney and citrus hop notes that provide a sharp, resinous edge typical of the style. The marriage of bold bitterness and dense malt creates a potent, warming experience that bridges the gap between a Double IPA and an American Barleywine. It finishes with a lingering, bittersweet resonance of resin and dark sugar.
Appearance. Deep copper to light brown in color (approximately 15–18 SRM). It features a moderate-sized, light tan head with fair retention and noticeable legs on the glass as the beer is swirled, reflecting its high alcohol content. Clarity is very good.
Aroma. High intensity with a bold malt-forward core of caramel, toffee, and dark raisin. This is immediately met by powerful hop aromas of resinous pine and sharp grapefruit zest. The fermentation profile is clean, allowing a noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth to emerge without any solvent-like character.
Taste. Initial impression is a massive collision of sweet malt and aggressive bitterness. Rich flavors of caramel and dried plum provide a dense body, while high hop bitterness and flavors of pine needles and citrus peel dominate the mid-palate. The finish is bittersweet and long-lasting, with a clean fermentation character and a significant, well-integrated alcohol presence that avoids being harsh.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full to full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is medium-low, enhancing the richness. A pronounced, pleasant alcohol warmth is present, accompanied by a light hop astringency that helps dry out the finish.
