Nebula is an opulent Imperial Stout defined by its sophisticated dual-oak whisky barrel aging. The high-gravity base provides a deep foundation of roasted grains, espresso, and bittersweet chocolate. A cosmic interplay of Starward whisky barrels introduces lush layers of vanilla and toasted coconut from American oak, contrasted by the delicate tannic spice of French oak. The 11.2% ABV is masterfully integrated into a velvety, decadent texture, leading into a finish rich with dark fruit esters and a lingering, spirit-forward warmth. It is a harmonious sensory journey where specialty malt complexity and refined barrel character create an otherworldly and indulgent profile.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a dense, creamy, deep tan head that exhibits moderate retention and leaves significant lacing. Visible viscosity is evidenced by prominent legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and deeply complex. Leading notes of dark chocolate, charred grain, and roasted coffee are layered with whisky-derived vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak. Moderate esters reminiscent of dried plums and black cherries emerge as the beer warms, accompanied by a smooth, clean alcohol presence.
Taste. Intense initial impression of bittersweet cocoa and espresso. The mid-palate reveals complex specialty malt sweetness, including caramel and toasted bread, balanced by a firm hop and roast bitterness. The Starward whisky barrels contribute notes of coconut, spice, and charred wood. The finish is long and bittersweet with a lingering warmth and a hint of dark fruit.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied, thick, and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, providing a comforting glow without any harsh or solventy edges.
