This luxurious Mixed-Style Beer marries the complexity of a rich Old Ale with the elegant vinous character of Carmenere grape must and the delicate perfume of orange blossom honey. On the nose, it offers a deeply layered aroma of dark plums, black cherries, and floral orange blossom honey, underpinned by rich toffee and a soft, warming alcohol note. The palate experiences a bold, full-bodied symphony of sweet, caramelized malts, dark grape skin tannins, and a subtle citrusy honey sweetness. A balanced, vinous acidity cuts through the decadence, leading to a lingering, gently warming, dry-sweet finish.
Appearance. Deep ruby-brown to mahogany in color. Pours with a thin, tan-colored head with low retention, leaving light lacing. Intrepid clarity with a slight, beautiful haze from the grape must and honey proteins.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant vinous aromas of dark red grapes, blackberries, and plums from the Carmenere must are intricately woven with the sweet, perfumed, and citrusy notes of orange blossom honey. The malt profile of the base beer provides strong caramel, molasses, and toasted bread notes, supported by ester profiles of dark dried fruits and a well-integrated, sweet alcohol warmth.
Taste. Initial impression is highly complex, rich, and vinous. Bold caramelized malt flavors, toffee, and dark fruit esters harmonize with the distinct flavor of dark red Carmenere grapes, which contribute a light grape-skin tannin and a touch of acidity. Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and velvety with a luscious, viscous texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, providing a gentle sparkle. Noticeable, soothing, and well-integrated alcohol warmth is present without being harsh, accompanied by a very light, pleasant grape-skin astringency.
