Blomberg Barbarroja
Ale 7 º 31 IBU
Blomberg Barbarroja is a bold American Strong Ale that captures the spirit of its corsair namesake with a robust sensory profile. Dominated by a complex blend of select barley malts, it offers rich layers of caramel and toffee. The addition of Hurdes honey introduces a unique floral sweetness and contributes to a dense, satisfying body. While American hops provide a firm, resinous bitterness to balance the malt weight, the fermentation produces subtle dark fruit esters. The experience culminates in a distinctive finish reminiscent of aged rum, where smooth alcohol warmth meets lingering notes of molasses and toasted sugar.
Appearance. Deep copper to light brown with a medium-sized, persistent light tan head and moderate lacing. Generally clear with good brilliance.
Aroma. High intensity malt aroma with prominent notes of dark caramel, toasted bread, and the floral, earthy essence of Hurdes honey. Hop aroma is moderate, featuring piney and resinous characteristics. Subtle dark fruit esters and a hint of clean alcohol are present.
Taste. Initial impression of rich malt and honey sweetness is quickly countered by a firm, assertive hop bitterness. Flavors of toffee and light molasses dominate the mid-palate. The honey adds floral complexity without being cloying. The finish is long and bittersweet, characterized by a notable rum-like alcohol presence and toasted grain.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, somewhat viscous texture. Carbonation is moderate. A pleasant, well-integrated alcohol warmth is noticeable but not sharp or solventy.
