This Imperial Stout offers a decadent sensory journey, anchoring its profile in a deep, chocolatey foundation derived from an abundance of dark malts. The aroma is dominated by rich, roasted notes that seamlessly blend with the nutty fragrance of peanut butter and the sweet, fruity esters of ripe banana. On the palate, a silky texture carries flavors of bittersweet cocoa and creamy nuttiness, while the banana adds a nostalgic, confectionary depth. Despite its 9% strength, the alcoholic heat remains masterfully integrated, yielding to a lingering, sweet finish of chocolate and roasted grain with a lush, velvety mouthfeel.
Appearance. Color is opaque jet black (SRM 40+). It supports a thick, creamy, dark tan head with excellent retention and significant lacing. High viscosity is evident as the liquid clings to the glass, forming visible legs.
Aroma. High intensity. Deep layers of bittersweet chocolate and cocoa powder from dark malts. Prominent nutty peanut butter notes are complemented by a distinct, ripe banana ester character. Low coffee-like roast and faint caramel sweetness provide a robust background, with very low hop presence.
Taste. Initial impression is sweet and velvety. Strong dark chocolate and cocoa flavors meld with rich peanut butter. The banana provides a mid-palate fruitiness that mimics a dessert profile. Moderate bitterness from roasted grains and hops provides balance against the high residual sweetness of a milk stout. The finish is long and decadent with lingering notes of chocolate-covered nuts.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full body with a chewy, luscious, and silky texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the creaminess. Alcohol warmth is very smooth and well-hidden, contributing to a gentle finish without any harshness or astringency.
