This celebratory American Barleywine offers a commandingly complex sensory experience, merging robust American hop character with the sophisticated influence of dual-barrel aging. Poured at a potent 12% ABV, it radiates deep copper hues with ruby highlights. The nose is a dense weave of resinous hops and bready malt richness, further elevated by the sweet vanilla of 6th Street Bourbon and the sharp, peppery spice of Smooth Ambler Rye Whiskey barrels. On the palate, aggressive bitterness is skillfully balanced by a chewy, malty sweetness and layers of toasted oak and dark fruit esters. The finish is long and warming, leaving a lingering, velvety trail of spirited rye and caramelized sugars.
Appearance. Medium copper to light brown with deep ruby highlights and brilliant clarity. Produces a moderately low, light tan head with visible legs trailing down the glass.
Aroma. High intensity featuring a blend of citrusy and resiny hops alongside rich, toasty malt and light caramel. Significant barrel-derived notes of vanilla, charred oak, and a distinct peppery rye spice complement moderately strong fruity esters.
Taste. Initial impression of intense malty sweetness is quickly met by an aggressive hop bitterness (balancing the high gravity). Flavors of toasted bread and light caramel meld with citrusy hop notes and the complex spirit character of bourbon and spicy rye whiskey. Finishes full and slightly dry with a lingering malt richness.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Alcohol warmth is prominent and smooth without being solventy. Carbonation is moderate to low.
