This 5th Anniversary Imperial Stout is a monumental exercise in patience and depth, having matured for two years across Widow Jane and Jack Daniels barrels. The profile is intensely concentrated, leading with aromas of charred oak, vanilla bean, and deep espresso. On the palate, the 15% ABV provides a significant yet smooth warmth that carries flavors of bittersweet chocolate, black molasses, and dark dried fruits like figs and raisins. The double-barrel aging introduces complex layers of spicy Tennessee whiskey and rich bourbon, finishing with a velvety, viscous texture and a lingering, spirit-forward resonance that balances massive roast with wood-derived sweetness.
Appearance. Jet black (40+ SRM) and completely opaque. Pours with a thick, dark tan head with moderate retention. Due to high viscosity and alcohol, noticeable legs are visible on the sides of the glass when swirled.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich blend of bittersweet chocolate and espresso roast. The double-barrel aging contributes strong notes of vanilla, toasted oak, and spicy whiskey. Moderate esters of dried plum and fig are present, alongside a smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
Taste. Intense and complex; initial flavors of dark chocolate, charred grain, and black licorice. The mid-palate is dominated by the spirit-soaked wood, offering caramel and spicy rye notes from the Widow Jane and Jack Daniels barrels. Medium-high bitterness provides a balance to the malt sweetness. The finish is long and warming with a lingering vinous, port-like character and roasty depth.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a viscous, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present, without being sharp or solventy.
