NEIPA - New England IPA 9.7 º
This bold Double IPA showcases an intense hop saturating presence, driven by a powerful combination of Citra and Mosaic Cryo hops. The aroma leads with a punch of tropical fruit, bright citrus, and ripe blueberries, supported by a lean, grainy malt base. On the palate, the high bitterness is firm but remarkably smooth, revealing layers of mango, grapefruit, and resinous pine. Despite the substantial 9.7% ABV, the beer remains dangerously drinkable with a medium body and a crisp, dry finish. The alcohol provides a gentle, well-integrated warmth that enhances the complex stone fruit esters, leaving a lingering, resinous hop impression.
Appearance. Deep gold to pale orange with a slight haze. Topped by a dense, persistent off-white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Intense hop aroma dominated by tropical mango and passionfruit from the Citra, alongside Mosaic-driven notes of blueberry, stone fruit, and a hint of resinous pine. Low, neutral grainy malt sweetness provides a clean backdrop, while a faint, clean alcohol warmth is present.
Taste. Initial hop-forward impression of grapefruit and pineapple followed by a firm, moderately high bitterness that avoids harshness. The Citra provides bright citrus zest while Mosaic adds complexity with berry and earthy floral notes. Low malt character is soft and supportive. The finish is medium-dry with a long, clean, hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly oily texture from the heavy hopping. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a lively prickle. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is felt without any solventy burn or astringency.
