This barrel-aged Imperial Stout offers an opulent sensory journey defined by nine months in Buffalo Trace barrels. The initial impact is a rich wave of dark chocolate and espresso, quickly layered with the decadent sweetness of maple and creamy vanilla. The Buffalo Trace barrel aging imparts sophisticated notes of charred oak and toasted marshmallow, which meld seamlessly with the base's dark fruit esters. It is a complex, harmonious experience where the high alcohol content provides a gentle, integrated warmth rather than a sharp bite. The finish is long and bittersweet, balancing the lush maple syrup against a firm, roasty malt backbone.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). A small, dense, dark tan head persists briefly, leaving oily legs on the glass as a result of the high alcohol and maple-driven viscosity.

Aroma. Intense and multi-layered; dominant aromas of bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee, and rich maple syrup. The barrel aging contributes high notes of vanilla, toasted coconut, and spicy bourbon. Moderate esters of dried plums and raisins are present, with very low earthy hop character and a smooth, vinous alcohol presence.

Taste. Massive initial impression of dark roasted grains and cocoa. The mid-palate is sweetened by maple and vanilla, which softens the firm bitterness. Flavors of black licorice, molasses, and charred oak from the bourbon barrels provide depth. The finish is moderately sweet but balanced by a lingering roasty character and a warming, bourbon-soaked aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a thick, chewy, and velvety texture. Low to moderate carbonation enhances the luscious, coating feel. A significant but smooth alcohol warmth is present without being hot or solventy.
