Double Combustion is a saturated and punchy Double IPA that highlights an intense southern hemisphere hop profile. The inclusion of Nelson, Nectaron, and Rakau Hop Kief creates a layered sensory experience defined by crushed white wine grapes, vibrant passionfruit, and ripe stone fruit. A lean, neutral malt backbone provides a clean canvas, ensuring the hop-derived tropical and resinous oils remain the focus without unnecessary sweetness. The fermentation character is exceptionally clean, leading into a dry, crisp finish. At 8% ABV, the beer exhibits a well-integrated, smooth alcohol warmth that complements a firm, assertive bitterness, delivering a bold and modern New World hop showcase.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper (8–10 SRM); displays good clarity with a faint, acceptable haze from heavy dry-hopping; topped by a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by Nelson, Nectaron, and Rakau, offering notes of gooseberry, passionfruit, peach, and citrus. Background notes of neutral, grainy malt; fermentation is clean with very low fruity esters and a hint of smooth alcohol.
Taste. An initial burst of tropical and stone fruit hop flavors follows the aroma, supported by a low, soft, neutral malt character. Bitterness is firm and moderately high (approximately 70 IBU) but lacks harshness. The profile is dry with a clean, lingering hoppy finish and a touch of resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crisp bite. A restrained and pleasant alcohol warmth is present, without any hop-derived astringency.
