Blackout Brewing

This English Barley Wine presents a decadent sensory journey amplified by its rest in Ruby Port barrels. The rich malt backbone provides deep layers of toffee and biscuit, which intertwine with the vinous character of added grapes. A subtle, warming presence of cinnamon weaves through the profile, complementing the natural dark fruit esters and the elegant, slightly oxidative notes of the Port. At 10% ABV, the alcohol is soft and masterfully integrated, leading to a complex array of raisins, plums, and festive spice. It is a luxurious, full-bodied sipper designed for slow appreciation, balancing heavy sweetness with a sophisticated, barrel-aged depth.

Appearance. Deep mahogany with distinct ruby highlights; brilliant clarity with a thin, creamy off-white head that shows low retention. Noticeable viscosity is visible as thick legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity of rich, bready malt and toffee, overlaid with strong dark fruit notes of raisin and plum. Distinct vinous Port character and a subtle, sweet cinnamon spice are complemented by soft, rounded alcohol.

Taste. Initial impression is a complex, multi-layered malty sweetness featuring caramel and biscuit flavors. Deep grape and dark fruit flavors emerge mid-palate, followed by a gentle cinnamon warmth. Low to moderate earthy hop bitterness provides balance against the rich, sweet finish that lingers with vinous and spicy notes.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, providing a smooth delivery. A significant but gentle alcohol warmth is present without any harsh burn.
