This opulent Imperial Stout presents a masterful integration of barrel and adjunct. An immediate rush of espresso coffee and caramelized dulce de leche greets the senses, layered over a foundation of deep roasted malts. The Bearface Whisky barrel aging introduces refined notes of toasted oak, vanilla, and a gentle spirit warmth that weaves through the dark chocolate profile. At 13% ABV, the beer is unapologetically bold, balancing the sweetness of milk caramel with the charred bitterness of roasted grains and dark fruit esters like raisins. It is a harmonious, decadent experience that showcases a luscious, velvety texture and a lingering, bittersweet finish.
Appearance. SRM 40, jet black and opaque. It features a small, dense, dark tan head with moderate to low retention. Significant viscosity is visible as heavy legs against the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. The bouquet leads with dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and a rich, creamy caramel note from the dulce de leche. Prominent whisky character provides toasted oak and vanilla, while moderate yeast esters suggest dried plums and raisins. Hop aroma is absent.
Taste. Highly complex with a rich mix of flavors. Initial dulce de leche and toffee sweetness is quickly met by intense roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate. The mid-palate reveals charred oak and spirit-driven vanilla from the barrel. Bitterness is moderate-high but well-supported by the malt. The finish is long and warming with lingering mocha and caramelized milk notes.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied with a thick, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low. Significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present and well-integrated. No astringency despite the heavy roast profile.
