This Imperial-strength American Porter offers a decadently layered sensory experience, transformed by nine months in French Antilles rum barrels. Deep aromas of bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee beans are elevated by heady notes of molasses, spiced cane sugar, and toasted oak. On the palate, a robust foundation of dark malts provides a velvety backdrop for flavors of dark fruit and vanilla-tinged rum. Despite its 11% ABV, the firm hop bitterness ensures a balanced profile, leading to a lingering, warming finish that oscillates between charred malt dryness and spirit-soaked sweetness. It is a bold, complex exploration of wood and roast.

Appearance. Very dark brown to near opaque black (35–40 SRM). Topped with a dense, tan-colored head showing moderately good retention and delicate lacing. Ruby-garnet highlights are visible when held to the light.

Aroma. High intensity. Dominant roasted malt character featuring dark chocolate, espresso, and lightly charred crust. Significant barrel influence provides aromas of aged rum, vanilla, and toasted oak. Low earthy hop notes and moderate dark fruit esters round out the complex bouquet.

Taste. Initial impression is of rich, dark chocolate and sweet rum-soaked malts. Medium-strong roasted flavor without acridity. Medium bitterness provides necessary structure against the high ABV. Mid-palate reveals vanilla, spiced oak, and dried fruit. The finish is long and warming, with a lingering balance of roasted grain and spirituous sweetness.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and viscous with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. Significant alcohol warmth is present but remains well-integrated, lacking harshness. Very low astringency from the dark malts.
