Blackout Brewing Afterthought (2024)

Afterthought (2024) presents an assertive sensory profile defined by a saturated hop character. The aroma is dominated by the complex interplay of Mosaic and Simcoe, offering layers of ripe passion fruit, pine resin, and dank blueberry. This profile is further elevated by the punchy, citrus-forward presence of Riwaka, which contributes vibrant notes of crushed grapefruit zest and tropical lime. On the palate, the 8% ABV is seamlessly integrated, providing a lean body that allows the intense bitterness to shine without harshness. This Double IPA finishes strikingly dry and clean, showcasing a lingering resinous quality and bright hop oils.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (SRM 7-9) with a slight, modern haze. Features a moderate-sized, persistent white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring tropical fruit (mango, passion fruit), citrus (grapefruit), and a resinous, piney backbone. Malt is supportive and neutral, reminiscent of cracked grain, with a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Strong, complex hop flavors of tropical fruit and citrus zest follow the aroma. Moderately high bitterness that is firm but smooth. Malt character is low and unobtrusive, providing a soft, bready foundation. Finishes dry with a lingering resinous and citrusy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Medium-high carbonation provides a crisp bite. Restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no hop-derived astringency.
