This fabled collaboration between Black Iris and Emperor’s Brewery delivers an imposing Imperial Stout that balances decadence with a vibrant, sharp edge. At 11% ABV, the beer releases an intense bouquet of bittersweet cacao nibs and the distinct, bright tang of sour cherry purée. The palate is dominated by rich layers of dark chocolate and espresso-like roasted malts, which are masterfully cut by the acidic pop of the cherries. It is a viscous, complex experience where the fruity esters harmonize with a firm bitterness, finishing with a lingering warmth and a velvety, chocolate-covered cherry aftertaste that remains balanced despite its strength.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, persistent deep tan head that leaves dense lacing. High viscosity is evident in the slow-forming legs on the glass after swirling.

Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring dark chocolate and raw cocoa from the cacao nibs. Significant tart fruitiness reminiscent of fresh sour cherries. Underlying notes of roasted coffee, black licorice, and a hint of dark caramel, with a clean, warming alcohol presence.

Taste. Initial impression is a rich, velvety wave of dark chocolate and bittersweet roast. The mid-palate introduces a sharp, authentic sour cherry tang that provides a necessary acidic counterpoint to the heavy malt base. Medium-high bitterness is present but integrated. The finish is long and complex, fading into a blend of roasted grain, cocoa, and dried fruit.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate. A smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. Very low astringency despite the high roast levels and fruit acidity.
