Black Iris Brewery No Smiles
No Smiles is a dense and saturated Hazy IPA that captures a thick and sticky profile through a heavy-handed approach to late-addition hopping. The aromatic impact is led by the vibrant citrus and tropical interplay of Idaho 7 and Motueka, delivering distinct notes of zesty lime and sun-ripened tangerine. Krush Cryo intensifies the hop saturation, layering in pungent over-ripe mangoes against a soft, bready malt backdrop. While it presents a full-bodied texture typical of the style, it retains the characteristic juicy drinkability, finishing with a smooth, restrained bitterness that allows the lush stone fruit and citrus oils to linger on the palate.
Appearance. Deep straw to glowing orange (5-7 SRM); opaque, uniform haze with a brilliant white, meringue-like head providing excellent retention and lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by over-ripe mango, lime zest, and sweet tangerine juice. Background malt character is neutral and bready; fermentation is clean with subtle tropical esters that complement the heavy dry-hop charge.
Taste. High fruity hop flavor featuring lime, tangerine, and succulent mango. Malt flavor is low and cracker-like, providing a soft platform for the hops. Perceived bitterness is mild to low, perfectly balanced by a medium-full body. The finish is off-dry, smooth, and clean without any hop harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full, pillowy body with a soft, silky mouthfeel. Carbonation is moderate. No perceived alcohol warmth or astringency, maintaining a high level of drinkability despite its density.
