Black Iris Brewery

This Double IPA radiates an intense tropical energy driven by a significant dry-hopping of Galaxy and Mosaic. A rush of passion fruit and ripe peach leads the sensory experience, supported by a clean, bright citrus backbone. The aroma is saturated with juice-like qualities, while the palate remains surprisingly lean for its strength, allowing the punchy hop character to dominate. Beneath the fruit, a neutral, grainy malt profile provides a soft foundation that carries the high bitterness without being heavy. It finishes crisp and dry, leaving a lingering trail of resin and tropical stone fruit.

Appearance. Pale gold to light orange (7-9 SRM). Pours with a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves sticky lacing. Modern versions often show a slight haze from extensive dry-hopping.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring potent notes of passion fruit and melon from Galaxy, alongside the blueberry and citrus-peel character of Mosaic. Background notes of pine and peach are evident. Malt is neutral and clean, with a very low grainy sweetness.

Taste. Initial punch of tropical fruit and citrus. Prominent hop flavors of peach and passion fruit follow. High bitterness is firm but smooth, lacking harshness. The malt flavor is low and unobtrusive, providing just enough structure. Finishes medium-dry with a long, resinous, and fruity aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, almost creamy texture. Moderate to high carbonation provides a crisp bite. A light, pleasant alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no astringency.
