Black Iris Brewery

This American IPA showcases a vibrant sensory profile centered on the prominent use of Mosaic hops. It opens with an intense, juicy bouquet of ripe blueberries, mango, and passion fruit, underpinned by a subtle citrus zest. The malt presence remains restrained, offering a clean, grainy backdrop that allows the hop-forward character to dominate. On the palate, a firm bitterness provides a crisp structure, balancing the tropical sweetness of the fruit notes before transitioning into a dry, refreshing finish. The fermentation is exceptionally clean, ensuring the complex interplay of stone fruit and resinous pine from the Mosaic hops remains the undisputed focal point of the experience.

Appearance. Deep gold to pale amber with brilliant clarity. Topped by a medium-sized, creamy white head that exhibits excellent persistence and leaves a fine ring of lacing on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring distinct notes of blueberry, crushed pineapple, and sweet tangerine. A very low, clean, bready malt scent supports the hops without competition. Esters are very low, presenting as a faint peach-like quality.

Taste. Initial impression is a burst of tropical fruit and berry flavor. A medium-high bitterness arrives quickly, providing a sharp but clean counterpoint to the hop-derived sweetness. Low grainy malt flavors provide a light toasted foundation. The finish is dry with a lingering resinous and citrusy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle on the tongue. Alcohol warmth is very light and well-integrated, with no astringency.
