Shadow World presents a refined take on the American Stout, leaning into its English-inspired heritage. The grist of English pale malt provides a sturdy base for layers of caramel and chocolate malts, which harmonize with the addition of Peruvian cacao nibs for a deep, bittersweet cocoa presence. Floral and earthy notes from East Kent Golding hops emerge gently, balancing the roasted intensity without overwhelming the palate. Fermented with an English ale strain and naturally carbonated, it offers a supple, creamy texture that belies its approachable strength, finishing with a clean, lingering roast character and a sophisticated dark chocolate depth.
Appearance. Jet black (40 SRM) and fully opaque. Features a large, persistent, tan-colored head with dense foam and significant lacing.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity of roasted malt, characterized by dark chocolate and cocoa from the chocolate malt and Peruvian cacao nibs. Low earthy and floral hop notes from East Kent Golding are present, alongside subtle fruity esters and a hint of toffee-like sweetness.
Taste. Initial flavors of bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee grounds. Medium-low sweetness from caramel malts gives way to a firm bitterness that balances the roast. Hop flavors are low and earthy. Finishes dry and clean with a lingering dark chocolate and roasted grain aftertaste.
