This Double IPA presents a powerful sensory profile defined by its dual dry-hop charge of Citra and Riwaka. The aroma is dominated by high-intensity notes of fresh grapefruit and zesty citrus, underscored by the unique tropical passionfruit nuances characteristic of Riwaka. Despite its 7.9% ABV providing a notable, soul-warming alcohol presence, the palate remains remarkably clean and dry. A firm bitterness balances the lean, neutral malt backbone, allowing the complex hop oils to lead into a lingering, crisp finish. It captures the essence of a modern Imperial IPA: intensely fruity and potent yet maintaining high drinkability.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper in color (8–10 SRM). Displays good clarity with a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head that leaves delicate lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent citrus, grapefruit, and tropical fruit notes from the Citra and Riwaka additions. A background of clean, neutral, grainy malt supports the hop profile. Fermentation is clean with a very light fruity ester presence and a subtle, well-integrated alcohol hint.
Taste. Initial impression is a burst of hop-derived grapefruit and citrus peel. The bitterness is moderately high and firm but lacks harshness. A lean, supportive malt character provides a soft foundation without residual sweetness. The finish is medium-dry and clean, featuring a lingering hoppy aftertaste and a smooth, warming alcohol flavor.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crisp bite that enhances the dry finish. Noticeable but restrained alcohol warmth is present, without any hop-derived astringency.
