This Dark Mild from Bexley Brewery is a quintessential British session ale, delivering a complex malt profile despite its approachable 3.4% ABV. The sensory journey is dominated by a rich tapestry of toasted bread, dark caramel, and subtle milk chocolate. While the gravity is low, the palate remains supple and avoids thinness, supported by a bready base. Delicate esters of raisin and plum add depth, while a faint earthy hop character provides a soft counterpoint. The experience concludes with a gentle, roasted dryness and a clean finish, making it a highly drinkable and flavorful malt-forward classic.
Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark brown with mahogany highlights. Generally clear with a low, creamy, off-white to light tan head.
Aroma. Low to moderate malt intensity featuring notes of toffee, toasted bread, and light chocolate. Subtle fruity esters suggesting plum or raisin are present, accompanied by a very low, earthy hop aroma.
Taste. Initially malty and sweet with flavors of caramel, toasted nuts, and cocoa. A bready base supports the palate while bitterness remains low, providing just enough balance to prevent cloying. The finish is off-dry with a faint, pleasant roasted grain character and light lingering fruitiness.
