This collaborative Imperial Stout from Bevog and Naparbier presents an indulgent, multi-layered sensory experience. A massive foundation of roasted malts delivers intense notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and black licorice, which are seamlessly softened by the addition of toasted coconut and rich maple syrup. The coconut provides a tropical, creamy nuance that complements the beer's velvety texture, while the maple adds a woody, caramelized sweetness that lingers through the finish. At 10.9% ABV, a smooth, integrated alcohol warmth bolsters the viscous body, creating a harmonious balance between aggressive roast bitterness and decadent, complex sweetness.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, dense, deep tan to mocha-colored head with moderate retention and significant oily legs visible on the glass due to high viscosity.
Aroma. High intensity aroma featuring a rich blend of bittersweet chocolate, heavy roasted coffee, and charred grain. Distinctive sweet layers of toasted coconut and earthy maple syrup dominate the mid-profile, supported by subtle dark fruit esters reminiscent of dried figs and prunes. Hop aroma is very low, masked by the intense adjunct and malt character.
Taste. Initial impression is remarkably rich and sweet, lead by maple syrup and cocoa. The mid-palate reveals complex malt flavors of espresso, burnt toast, and black licorice. Toasted coconut provides a creamy, nutty counterpoint to the sharp roasted bitterness. The finish is long and lingering, balancing a moderate-high bitterness with a decadent maple sweetness and a smooth, vinous alcohol presence.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a viscous, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, enhancing the overall richness without being harsh or solventy.
