This White IPA bridges the gap between a classic Belgian Witbier and a modern American IPA. Brewed in Twente with a significant grist of wheat and oats, the beer presents a remarkably smooth, silky texture that softens the punchy hop profile. Appearance. Pale straw to light gold (3-4 SRM). Cloudy to hazy clarity due to the high protein content of the wheat and oats. Large, dense, white head with excellent persistence and fine lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma characterized by grapefruit, orange peel, and tropical notes from the American hops. Moderate bready and grainy malt presence from the wheat. Low fruity esters and a subtle spicy yeast character, with no detectable dimethyl sulfide or diacetyl.
Taste. Initial impact is dominated by citrus and stone fruit hop flavors. The middle palate reveals a soft, bready malt sweetness from the wheat and oats which provides a backdrop for the medium-high bitterness. The finish is dry and clean with a lingering fruity hop aftertaste and no harshness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a notably smooth and creamy texture derived from the oats. High carbonation provides a refreshing prickle on the tongue. Very low alcohol warmth, consistent with its sessionable strength.
