Floodgates is a high-impact Double IPA that showcases an intense saturation of Comet and Mosaic hops. The aroma is a rush of zesty grapefruit, resinous pine, and ripe mango, underpinned by Mosaic’s signature blueberry and stone fruit notes. On the palate, the hop-forward character is assertive, delivering layers of tropical fruit and dank citrus against a lean, crackery malt backdrop. Despite its high strength, the finish remains remarkably dry and clean, featuring a lingering, firm bitterness. Comet provides a wild, grassy edge that balances the lush sweetness of the fruit, resulting in a complex and powerfully aromatic drinking experience.
Appearance. Deep gold to light orange (8 SRM) with a slight, modern haze from heavy dry-hop additions. It pours with a moderate-sized, persistent, off-white head that leaves thick lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring distinct notes of grapefruit, resinous pine, and a dank, wild herbal quality from Comet. Mosaic adds significant complexity with layers of tropical mango, ripe blueberry, and stone fruit. The malt remains a neutral, crackery background note.
Taste. Strong hop flavors of tropical fruit, grapefruit pith, and resinous pine dominate the palate. The bitterness is moderately high and firm, providing a clean counterpoint to a very low, soft malt character. Mosaic’s berry and stone fruit notes are prominent through the mid-palate, leading into a dry, clean finish with a lingering hoppy and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate to medium-high. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its high gravity without any harsh or solventy character.
