This Scottish Light presents a sophisticated malt-driven profile, pouring a deep mahogany with a resilient creamy head. The aroma is defined by rich layers of treacle and toasted English biscuits, complemented by subtle notes of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. On the palate, the beer balances caramelized sugar sweetness with a gentle, roasty dryness that prevents it from becoming cloying. Despite its low bitterness, the mouthfeel is surprisingly full-bodied and creamy, reflecting its heritage as a traditional draught product. A clean fermentation profile allows the intricate interplay of specialty grains to shine, finishing with a lingering, smooth, and bready malt character.
Appearance. Deep copper to dark mahogany; brilliant clarity. Features a moderate, creamy off-white head with good persistence and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate malt intensity with prominent notes of treacle, dark caramel, and toasted breadcrumbs. Subtle hints of cold-brew coffee and cocoa appear in the background. Hop aroma is very low and earthy. Fermentation is clean with a faint suggestion of pome fruit.
Taste. Initial flavors of toasted biscuits and caramelized sugar give way to a mid-palate of treacle and English biscuits. Very low hop bitterness, allowing the malt to dominate. Subtle chocolate and coffee flavors emerge toward the finish. Clean fermentation profile with a slightly roasty dryness that balances the residual malt sweetness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a noticeably creamy texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, contributing to a smooth, cask-like delivery. No perceptible alcohol warmth.
