This American IPA presents a modern, ultra-clean profile by utilizing Pilsner Malt and a crisp lager yeast fermentation to create a lean, refreshing canvas. The sensory experience is dominated by an intense hop trio of Strata, Cryo Mosaic, and Riwaka. These specific varieties deliver a punchy bouquet of ripe passionfruit, succulent mango, and subtle berry undertones. Despite its significant strength, the beer remains exceptionally bright, with the minimalist malt base allowing the vibrant, tropical fruit notes to lead. It finishes dry and sharp, epitomizing a contemporary, hop-forward character that bridges the gap between classic West Coast intensity and cold-fermented precision.

Appearance. Medium gold with brilliant clarity. Pours with a thick, persistent white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.

Aroma. Intense, hop-forward aroma featuring prominent tropical notes of passionfruit and mango, alongside subtle berry and resinous pine. A low, clean, grainy-sweet malt presence provides a neutral backdrop, supported by an exceptionally clean fermentation profile devoid of esters.

Taste. High hop flavor mirrors the aroma with vivid mango and passionfruit character. Bitterness is firm and assertive but remains clean and never harsh. The malt flavor is low and grainy-sweet, characteristic of the pilsner base. The finish is very dry and crisp with a lingering, hoppy aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Carbonation is medium-high, enhancing the refreshing and scrubbed quality of the palate. Minimal alcohol warmth is present, well-integrated into the finish.

We first met Darren the head brewer of Fracture Brewing in North East Portland, Oregon, USA while he was running the Heart of Darkness bar in Saigon, Vietnam. Soon after Darren got into brewing. Now he is on the right side of the bar after a day in the brewery back in his native, USA.
We have wanted to brew a beer together for some time. So here we have, Right Side Of The Bar IPA 6.8% ABV, a different type of IPA than we usually do, made with Pilsner Malt and a Lager yeast. It is still very much a big IPA with the huge amount of Strata, Cryo Mosaic and Riwaka hops we have used. Giving us passionfruit and mango flavours to satisfy even the biggest hop head, but still super refreshing (for a big beer) for springtime.
If you have never been to Portland. It is pretty much beer paradise. Get over and get amongst it! Tell ‘em we sent ya!
