Inspired by historical British exports to the Russian Court, Kremlin Krude is a decadent Imperial Stout that pours as dark and viscous as the crude oil for which it is named. The sensory profile is defined by an intense, multi-layered depth, showcasing the bold interplay of burnt sugar and deep roasted grains. Unique additions of Peated malt introduce a distinctive wisp of smoke that weaves through a rich, dark chocolate and espresso core. A firm backbone of spicy hops provides structural balance against the massive alcohol presence, leading to a complex finish where lingering sweetness, earthy smoke, and firm bitterness converge.
Appearance.Jet black and completely opaque, resembling motor oil. It forms a thick, persistent deep tan head with excellent retention. High viscosity is evident as the beer leaves slow-moving legs on the glass surface after swirling.
Aroma.High intensity and deeply complex. Dominant aromas of heavily roasted coffee, dark chocolate, and black licorice are layered with a noticeable earthy smokiness. Esters of prune and black currant emerge as it warms, complemented by a moderate spicy hop character and a clean, integrated alcohol warmth.
Taste. The initial impression is an explosion of bittersweet chocolate and burnt sugar. The mid-palate reveals charred grain and a persistent smokiness from the specialty malt. Hop bitterness is firm and aggressive, balancing the malt richness. Flavors of dark dried fruits like raisins and figs provide depth, leading to a long, warming finish with a lingering aftertaste of espresso and spice.
Mouthfeel.Full-bodied and exceptionally viscous with a chewy, velvety texture that coats the palate. Carbonation is moderate-low, enhancing the beer’s decadent weight. A smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present throughout without being harsh or solventy.
