Uptown Monk is an elegant Belgian-style Tripel collaboration with Alvinne, presenting a sensory profile rich in complexity. High-intensity aromas of clove and sweet rock candy are layered with earthy, floral notes and a sophisticated vinous character derived from wine barrel aging. The palate leads with deep, honeyed sweet-malt and notes of dried figs, supported by a subtle, rustic graininess from the alternative grains used. The experience concludes with a peppery finish and bright fruit notes. At 9.3% ABV, this ale offers a round and warming mouthfeel, balancing its robust strength with a dry, lingering spiciness and a vinous, fruit-driven elegance.
Appearance. Deep gold to light amber (6-9 SRM). Pours with a large, creamy, off-white head with excellent retention and lacing. Moderate to high haze is present due to the alternative grain bill and yeast character.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominant spicy clove phenols and sweet, candy-like esters are complemented by honeyed malt. Earthy and floral hop notes are secondary to a distinct vinous, wine-like character and a rustic, grainy depth.
Taste. Leads with a rich initial impression of sweet malt, honey, and dried figs. The fermentation character is prominent, featuring peppery phenols and fruity esters. Hop bitterness is moderate but firm enough to balance the sweetness. The finish is dry and lingering, showcasing peppery spice and bright fruit tannins from wine barrel contact.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a round, smooth texture. Carbonation is high, providing a lively effervescence. Alcohol presence is noticeable and provides a gentle, well-integrated warmth without being harsh.
