This Imperial Stout is a bold, assertive experience, defined by its deep, ink-black presence and a complex interplay of roasty and citrus characters. The aroma and palate are dominated by heavy-handed roasted malt, offering notes of bittersweet chocolate and coffee, underpinned by a rich caramel sweetness. This robust foundation is expertly balanced by the classic American profiles of Centennial and Cascade hops, which introduce bright floral and citrusy notes that lift the dense, dark grains. With its velvety, full-bodied mouthfeel and a smooth alcoholic warmth, it delivers a lingering, bittersweet finish that highlights its intense, multifaceted nature.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, well-formed, deep tan head with excellent retention and significant lacing. High viscosity is apparent in the glass.
Aroma. High intensity roast with notes of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and slightly burnt grain. Moderate caramel malt sweetness provides a foundation for aggressive American hop aromas of citrus and pine, derived from Centennial and Cascade. Subtle dark fruit esters of plum and raisin are present alongside a soft, clean alcohol note.
Taste. Initial impression is an intense mix of roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavors supported by a rich, bready caramel maltiness. High bitterness is present but balanced by the malt density.
